Apple announced a new MacBook Air (and Pro) today, 6-6-2022, at their annual technology conference WWDC, and it comes in 2 configurations. The base configuration comes with their new M2 chip (8-cores) and a 256 GB SSD. The second higher-end configuration comes with the same M2 chip but an additional 2 cores and doubles the HD space with a 512 SSD.

So how does the new MacBook Air compare to the M1 MacBook Air?

The new MacBook Air has a slightly bigger screen (.6″), and the base processor is faster. The most significant difference is the upgraded chipset, and Apple has stated that the M2 chip has 18% better performance overall. The M2 is a specialized GPU that can have up to 10 cores (compared to the M1’s 8) and is 35% better at graphics processing when compared to the M1. This won’t be an extensive upgrade for most people if you just bought a MacBook Pro, but if yours is getting older or you were already considering a MacBook Pro, this could be great news.

Who is a MacBook Air good for? Is it worth it?

The MacBook Air is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a lightweight and ultra-portable computer. It’s perfect for students or business professionals who need to be able to take their work with them on the go and don’t want to carry anything heavy.

Even though it’s not as powerful as some other MacBooks, it’s still an excellent machine for browsing the web, checking email, and working on documents. The battery life is also exceptional, making it ideal for travel. The main downside is that it’s not as affordable as some of the other options on the market and doesn’t have as many ports for connecting peripherals. However, it’s worth a look if you want a reliable, sleek, high-performance laptop.

How much is the new M2 MacBook Air?

The base unit is $1199.00 – it comes with their new M2 chip (8-cores) and a 256 GB SSD. The upgraded MacBook Air is $1499.00; it comes with an M2 chip with 10-cores and a 512 GB SSD.
